Quilt History Lecture Series by Linda Camp

Linda's first quilt history lecture, Quilting in America from the 1860's to the Early 1900's, was held July 14th and we covered quite a bit of interesting information including how fabrics and colors, and therefore quilts, evolved as technology advanced, how the patterns we use today have evolved, how the cyclical nature of trends and fads affected quilting throughout this period and what was going on from colonization to just after the civil war. Beautiful antique quilts rand fabric samples reflecting these topics were on display for everyone to enjoy.

We recorded the lecture and will have it ready to download very soon. If you missed it and were hoping to catch up, watch for an email or follow us on Facebook. We'll announce the details on how you can view the recording as soon as we have it ready.

Our next lecture is coming up in August on the 11th and everyone is invited to attend!

Quilt History Lecture: Quilts from the 1860's to the Early 1900's $10 admission
Sat. Aug. 11, 3pm-4:30pm
Linda Camp

Styles in quilts and quilting changed dramatically after the Civil War.  The country had changed. There were advances in dye technology,  making it possible for ladies to more easily dye their fabrics at home, also allowing factories to produce exciting new styles and colors of fabrics.

There were new patterns for quilt blocks circulating among ladies sewing circles, and some of them became associated with certain parts of the country where they developed.  There was a nation wide fad for adding Red and Green to quilts, sometimes the results were stunning and sometimes, a great mistake!

We have many examples of quilts from the 1870’s to show and we also have quilts that are examples of how styles and color preferences were changing during the early 1900’s.

For the first time ladies could order fabric from catalogs, making colors and styles available to the entire country for the first time.  Many families have treasured quilts from this time period.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more.

10th Anniversary Party

We celebrated our 10th Anniversary at the shop on March 3rd! What a fantastic day!

We were so excited - and busy - that we forgot to take pictures of the decorations, the snack table, and the group from Saturday Sampler! But we did get a few great shots from our photo booth as the day went on.

We want to thank everyone who came out to join us in our celebration and all of you who have shared your passion for quilting (and beautiful fabric!) and shopped with us over the last 10 years.

We wouldn't be here without the support of our local quilters, nearby guilds, Shop Hop customers, Row By Row visitors, online customers, and all the crafters and travelers who make time to come visit. We truly appreciate all of YOU!

We captured the wild bunch you know best from the shop and got them to hold still long enough for a silly bespectacled glamour shot!  L-R Tabby, Linda, Adee and LeeAnn (Juli slipped away before we had a chance to break for a quick pic. Sorry Juli!)

And we were beyond thrilled that Lu, our very first customer EVER when we opened the shop,
drove down to spend a little time with us and help us celebrate!

We'd also like to mention that our digital billboard ad at the corner of Veterans and Whittlesey went up February 1st. We're reaching out to all the quilty crafty folks who need to come check out our amazing fabric and try a class. Help us spread the word! Tell your friends to look for the billboard, like us on Facebook and follow us on Instgram!

And in other news, we are proud to be a Better Homes and Gardens Quilt Sampler TOP SHOP! We were originally featured in the 2013 winter issue of Quilt Sampler magazine. They've just updated and released their new logo so we've refreshed our website and social media to reflect the change and proudly added the new sticker to our front door. Come see for yourself what Quilt Sampler magazine saw at Sunday Best, a shop worthy of being chosen as TOP TEN in the country!

Middle Georgia Shop Hop is February 16-19!

We're so excited that Shop Hop is almost HERE! Sunday Best will be open 9:30am-6pm Fri., Sat. and Mon., and Sun. 1-4pm for this special event. We look forward to seeing you!

Like the Shop Hop Facebook page to see each shops finishing kit when they post their photos. Be patient, it may be Feb. before they are shared.

Each shop will be offering two quilt blocks for $1 per quilt block. This year's blocks are made from Hoffman 1895 Batiks.  Shop Hoppers who visit all seven quilt shops will have 14 blocks. Each shop will offer a different finishing kit option for your quilt.

How it works:
1.  Pick up your Shop Hop Passport at the first quilt shop you visit. Get a stamp from each of the seven quilt shops as you visit them, and turn in the passport at the last shop.
2.  Each passport that has all seven quilt shop stamps will be entered into the prize drawings.
3.  There will be no block pick up for friends. Shop Hoppers may purchase additional blocks for $5 per block.
4.  No blocks will be available for pick up after the Shop Hop; you must be present to receive blocks for $1 each.  Blocks will not be emailed or mailed out during or after the Shop Hop.

Prizes:
Each Quilt Shop will give away one $50 gift card/certificate as a prize (seven chances to win).  The Grand Prize is a $50 gift card/certificate from each shop ($350 - one chance to win).
Visit the Mid GA Shop Hop website for complete details and view the list of participating shops.

Giving Back

I'd personally like to thank everyone who worked with us to make charity quilts in 2017! We gathered, labored, and enjoyed each others company while we worked. We believe in giving back to our community and helping in any way we can.

Just before Christmas, we donated a total of  28 completed quilts to Hope Harbour! (And we already have three more ready to quilt for 2018!) Your kindness and willingness to create, sew, give your time, your talent and your fabric to others, made it possible for us to share this gift of pure quilted love!

- Linda

If you would like to help, please consider donating to Hope Harbour and support their efforts to help survivors of domestic violence.
